Holiday Safety – Electrical Outlets

Now’s a great time to have a licensed electrician check your outlets for safety. The Holiday season will soon be here and every outlet available both inside and outside will be used to light as many things as possible from wreaths, trees, doorways, front yard sleighs, candy canes, snowmen etc., etc. Families will string together extension cords, surge protectors, and figure out a way to make sure any Christmas decoration needing electricity will be lit.

Most people that do this have children and want to make the season as happy and festive as possible without a thought of having their home checked by a professional.

A licensed professional will come in and make sure outlets are not damaged or loose, and upgrade outlets, check fuse box and wiring system if necessary.

Each year there are Approximately 250 structural fires started by Christmas trees alone.  .

Electrical failures or malfunctions were involved in one-third (32%) of the home Christmas tree structure fires. One in six (17%) occurred because some type of heat source was too close to the tree. Decorative lights on line voltage were involved in 12% of these incidents.

For the purpose of this blog, we’d like to focus on preventative measures and not morbid facts and statistics but the reality is that there are fatalities as well as serious injuries every year.

Please have your home checked before opening boxes of lights and ornaments and enjoy a safe and happy holiday season.
